MAP Conference ‘An Introduction to Restorative Practice’ – Thursday 25th January 2018

The next MAP Conference will be held on Thursday 25th January 2018 at Middlesbrough Football Club. The conference theme will be ‘An Introduction to Restorative Practice’. BOOKINGS FOR THE CONFERENCE HAVE NOW CLOSED, however we do have a limited number of places available. If you would like to attend please email before close of play on Thursday 11th January 2018.

Fresh Start Guidance Event – Wednesday 17th January 2018

Middlesbrough College are holding a Fresh Start Guidance Event at the college on Wednesday 17th January 2018 from 11.00 am to 4.00 pm. The event will give potential students information on the courses available and the Northern Skills Group will also be on hand to provide information on current apprenticeship vacancies.

Enhancing Productivity with iPad, Thursday 18th January 2018, 4.00 – 5.30 pm

North Ormesby Primary Academy are offering a twilight session to help you develop the skills needed to deliver powerful learning experiences with iPad it he classroom. The session will allow you to help students’ learning go deeper through getting organised, planning and sharing their work and documenting and reflecting. Engaging Able Writers Conference – Thursday 25th January 2018

The Risk & Resilience Team are holding a Middlesbrough Digital Resilience Annual Conference at Middlesbrough Football Club. Middlesbrough College Open Event – Saturday 3rd February 2018, 10 am to 12 noon

Middlesbrough College will be holding an Open Event, offering potential students the perfect opportunity to find out more about the college and the courses on offer. During the event students can visit the interactive subject stands, take a tour of the £100m campus, get free impartial careers advice, find out about great student perks, meet current students and apply for courses.

Macmillan Academy Post-16 Open Morning – Saturday 10th February 2018, 10 am to 12 noon

Macmillan Academy are holding a Post-16 open morning on Saturday 10th February 2018 from 10 am to 12 noon. The event will be a great opportunity for students from secondary schools across Middlesbrough to go along and look around the Post-16 facilities and find out about courses, business links and university options available to them.

Apprenticeship Event – Monday 26th February 2018

The Tees Valley Network, in partnership with National Careers Service, would like to invite all Year 9 learners to an interactive Apprenticeship Event at Inspire2Learn Centre on Monday 26th February 2018. Places are limited, so early booking is essential. Email to reserve a place.

Risk of Radicalisation-raising teachers/parents awareness

As part of the Risk Reduction Team’s forthcoming “Digital Resilience” conference Middlesbrough Council’s PREVENT lead will be there to launch a new process as part of your PREVENT duty linked to the online aspect of protecting young people from the risk of radicalisation. Since 2016 Middlesbrough Council have been tweeting via their MbroPREVENT twitter feed promoting information for teachers and parents alike around PREVENT and prevent related subjects including online safety advice for parents regarding children`s social media and tech use. It is recommended schools, as part of this prevent arm of the Digital Resilience project follow the twitter feed and promote the parent entitled retweets which include information from UK Safer Internet, Parentzone and other appropriate advisory agencies relating to reducing the risk of radicalisation.

Children’s school records to be examined for self-harm and suicide risk

Children’s school records are to be cross-examined with their health information to determine whether they are at risk of self-harm or mental health issues, in a new study by King’s College London. 180,000 anonymised pupils between 10-17 years old will have their school results linked up with their health data. The research aims to help develop more targeted interventions to help children earlier with mental health issues. See full article here.
