In September 2015 we launched AGSPride; our aim is to equip all of our students with the necessary skills to be successful in the future. Through ”Pride”, we are aiming to promote students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development as well as their physical well-being in order to fully prepare our young people for life in modern Britain. Pride is an acronym for the five characteristics which, according to recent research, are looked for by employers.
P – Perseverance
R – Respect
I – Initiative
D – Direction
E – Expression
In order to launch the full meaning of “Pride”, we delivered a live broadcast to all students each week, explaining the importance of each characteristic and also their associated behaviours. Every Friday students received two challenges and competed throughout the following week to win hundreds of Vivo points. There was also a chance to become part of Acklam Grange history as students searched for and wrote their own quotes to represent each part of “Pride” and the winners have had their quotes transformed into modern wall art which now decorate the walls of our school along with the students’ names.
Our students met each challenge with enthusiasm and there was been an overwhelming response to the competitions – during “Initiative” week, over £2000 was raised for our school charity “The Meserani Project.” Everyone is working hard to earn their silver Pride badge which will be worn on their blazer; they must display the behaviours associated with each “Pride” characteristic at least twice in order to successfully achieve their badge. Over 200 of our students have been awarded their badges already and more are being presented in assemblies each week.
